September 2020 Traffic Report Message from Tom Whittington

Welcome to Fall.
Or, as people in Florida know it, “Season.”
We are often asked if boat sales pick up in Season in Florida.
Yes, for a couple weeks.
So, is your boat ready for October and Season?
Boats sell here, all year, but it is true many prospective Buyers do not start looking until they come south for the Winter.
With what we are experiencing this year we are not sure if we will notice an uptick. However, we want your boat to be ready.
MPYS sold 6 boats in September of 2019 and 8 in 2020.
This remains, of course, a very abnormal year for boat sales.
Your prospective Buyer may certainly be a “Snowbird”, winter tourist or new resident to the Sunshine State. But it is also possible we could get a call on your boat from a Buyer in Alabama, Texas, or in the case recently, Hawaii.
Before someone comes to see a boat they usually ask the following three questions:
  1. How long have you had the boat for sale?
  2. Why is the owner selling her?
  3. What is the best price?
We understand the Buyer is doing their best to prepare to negotiate even before committing to seeing the boat.
We have developed engaging answers for them in order to continue the conversation and encourage them to make an appointment. We will agree to see them after hours and on the weekend. We want them to visit her!
It is important that you know if your boat has a deficiency, like a non-working generator, air conditioner, electronics or even a damaged swim platform or roller furling. It is smart business to let them know in advance instead of disappointing them once they arrive. We never want to mis-set expectations.
Thank you for aiding us in maintaining your boat in her best condition possible.
Remember, we do not start engines and certainly do not go for boat rides until agreement in price is reached and a deposit is received. We look forward to receiving an offer for your boat.
On another note, as the Vice President of Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast, we are meeting regularly to prepare for the Stuart Boat Show in January. The word we are getting is the Roosevelt Bridge will be repaired and ready!
Enjoy our wonderful Fall Season.
